Congratulations to Michelle Long!
Michelle Long will soon be able to add a set of initials after her last name. Recently Michelle took and passed the final exam (of 3) required for the Enrolled Agent certification.
However, currently she’s waiting (along with everyone else) for the IRS to acknowledge her achievement and send her the documents to make it official. But waiting for her documents to show up is nothing compared to passing the extremely difficult Special Enrollment Examination (SEE) exam. Earning her EA license proves dedication and a commitment to providing the most knowledgeable service possible for her clients and allows Michelle to represent taxpayers before the IRS.
Congrats again to Michelle. We are thrilled to have her knowledge and expertise here at Nissen and Associates.
What is an enrolled agent (EA)?
An enrolled agent (EA) is a federally authorized tax practitioner with technical expertise in the field of taxation. EA’s prepare a wide range of federal and state tax returns, and are authorized to advise, represent, and prepare tax returns for any entities with tax-reporting requirements. This includes individuals, partnerships, corporations, estates and trusts.
Enrolled agents are known as America’s tax experts and have a vast knowledge of anything that pertains to tax including:
- income tax
- inheritance tax
- gift tax

- retirement
- non-profit taxation
An EA earns their status by either passing a three-part comprehensive IRS test covering individual and business tax returns. Also EA’s can earn status through experience as a former IRS employee. Enrolled agent status is the highest credential the IRS awards. Individuals who obtain this elite status must adhere to ethical standards. In addition, the must complete 72 hours of continuing education courses every three years.
